Is God’s Law Impossible? Does God Command the Impossible? Jesse Morrell | Moral Government Theology

Is God’s law impossible?

Does God command the impossible?

No, God commands what we are capable of:

Deu 30:11 – For this commandment which I command thee this day, it is not hidden (פָּלָא to be beyond one’s power, be difficult to do) from thee, neither is it far off

Tyrants demand the impossible:

Exo 5:16 – There is no straw given unto thy servants, and they say to us, Make brick: and, behold, thy servants are beaten; but the fault is in thine own people

Our obligation is proportional to our ability:

Luk 10:27 – And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself

Temptation does not exceed our ability:

1Co 10:13 – There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

His commands are not too hard:

Mat 11:30 – For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light

1Jo 5:3 – For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.

Others have kept His law:

Luk 1:6 – And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless

What does this mean? It means Gods law is not unjust, unreasonable, and tyrannical. And it means that transgression is unjustifiable and inexcusable. Therefore we need Jesus.
