“You preach repent of your sins to be saved. That makes you a modern day Pharisee!”
This is very faulty thinking on many levels. The Pharisees didn’t go around calling sinners to repentance. They wouldn’t even talk with sinners (John 9:41). It was men like John the Baptist, Jesus Christ, and Christ’s Apostles who preached repentance.
Jesus came to call sinners to repentance:
Luke 5:32: “I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.”
Mark 6:12: “And they went out, and preached that men should repent.”
Mat 3:7-11: “But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come? Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance: And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham. And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance…”
Mat 21:31-32: “Whether of them twain did the will of his father? They say unto him, The first. Jesus saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you. For John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not: but the publicans and the harlots believed him: and ye, when ye had seen it, repented not afterward, that ye might believe him.”
