Will the Real Pharisees Please Stand Up? Jesse Morrell Theology

Antinomian Heretics have told me:
“You preach repent of your sins to be saved. That makes you a modern day Pharisee!”

This is very faulty thinking on many levels. The Pharisees didn’t go around calling sinners to repentance. They wouldn’t even talk with sinners (John 9:41). It was men like John the Baptist, Jesus Christ, and Christ’s Apostles who preached repentance.

Jesus came to call sinners to repentance:

Luke 5:32: “I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.”

The Apostles called sinners to repentance:
Mark 6:12: “And they went out, and preached that men should repent.”
John the Baptist preached repentance to the Pharisees:
Mat 3:7-11: “But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come? Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance: And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham. And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance…”
Jesus rebuked the Pharisees for not repenting:
Mat 21:31-32: “Whether of them twain did the will of his father? They say unto him, The first. Jesus saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you. For John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not: but the publicans and the harlots believed him: and ye, when ye had seen it, repented not afterward, that ye might believe him.”
If a Pharisee is a religious sinner – a religious person who doesn’t repent of his sins – then that makes the Antinomian heretics of the day modern day Pharisees.
Those people who go to church, sing worship songs, read their Bibles, say their prayers, but don’t repent of the sins of their heart (or go out to witness to sinners and call them to repentance), they are the religious Pharisees of the day.

  1. Magdalena Nena says:

    AMEN, Jesse.
Jesus begins His ministry of teaching, proclaiming the good news,by calling to repentance.
Matthew 4:17 From that time on Jesus began to preach, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.” The very first thing Jesus said is REPENT! No wonder He will say to many depart from Me, I never knew you 😦
People do not want to repent from their evil, wicked ways and be born again from the Holy HOLY Spirit of God. They rather profess Him only with their lips, but go on to fornicate, cheat, lie, commit adultery, watch porn and fulfill other flesh desires of their own. Follow their will in the heart but say with their lips how they follow Jesus and do His will. The worst are who say they do not need repentance, exactly, those are the REAL Pharisees.
