MISSION TRIP: ALASKA

My family and I spent a year of our life living in Alaska. This was our Mission Base while we were there. This was home sweet home. It was a bit of a fixer upper but I enjoyed working on it and the kids learned to help too.

On a good night, you could actually see the Northern Lights from our deck! This was “Home Schooling” in living color! My wife and I both grew up with snowy winters. My wife is from Canada and I am from Connecticut. But our children have all been born and raised in Texas, so this was their first snowy winter experience. They loved it.

Our home was situated in beautiful Eagle River, a nice little military town. The JBER base is nearby. While lots of Alaska is “wilderness” and “the great outdoors,” Eagle River has a nice little downtown with restaurants and shopping. And Walmart was only five minutes from the house, so we didn’t have to hunt and fish for our food like people in “the bush.”

This is a shot of the Eagle River, from a hiking trial. You can’t help but to worship God when you see the beauty of His creation.

This is Anchorage, which is a major port city. The warmer weather off the ocean also gives Anchorage and Eagle River a milder winter than what they have further North. In Fairbanks, for example, it will be negative thirty degrees. But the Anchorage area will have the average winter temperature of twenty five degrees, which is what I was familiar with in Connecticut.

You can see a lot of videos of mine on Youtube preaching downtown Anchorage. There’s a lot of drug and alcohol use in this city. The people really need a move of God.

This is a shot from the local shopping center. Even a simple trip to Lowes comes with a beautiful view! Even after living there for a year the beauty of the area never diminished.

This was one of the first outreaches we did in Alaska. It was organized by our local friends. There was a “Pro-Choice Protest and March” in Palmer, AK. This provided us with a perfect opportunity to preach the Gospel to lost souls.

Their protest and march started at the City Hall. We stood on the public sidewalk with our own signs and preached loud and clear for them to hear, calling them to repentance.

As expected, the women were pretty hostile and aggressive. After all, these are the people who murder their own babies. They would yell and scream and have a tantrum. I take that to be a good sign that their conscience is being pricked.

A local journalist came out to cover the event and interviewed members of our team. He was actually a pro-life journalist so his interview was very reasonable and civil. Christians need to be vocal and take a stand. Christianity was always meant to be a public voice for cultural change.

Sin is everywhere, which is why we must preach the Gospel everywhere.

As beautiful as Alaska is, there’s a lot of darkness, sin and lost souls.
